What is this thing called Alpha all about? First of all, it is not a program. Second, it is not a high pressure sales pitch. It is a place where people can come together and explore questions. The questions are their questions, and maybe some of them are your questions. Alpha is a place where no questions of faith, questions about God, questions about life, questions like “why are we here? or “what is my purpose in life?” are “out of bounds” or can’t be talked about.
Alpha is for everyone: Seekers, questioners, someone with a particular religious background, or someone with no religious background; it is for those who want to grow in their faith but are not quite sure how or who to talk to; it is for people who were raised with in a faith – and are now asking why they believe what they believe (or were told they had to believe); it is for people looking to explore questions of faith. Everyone has a different history, and the talks and discussions at Alpha sessions honor and respect that history.
Alpha meetings are based on fellowship and developing friendships. There is always food, there is short video, and then there is a time for listening and sharing.
Questions? Please contact any of the pastors or any of the current Alpha team: Sean McGlynn, Ralph Bogeberg, Lory Breitzman, Delores Ledbettor or Pastor Ron Cox. We are also praying for more people to join the team!
Ascension will be hosting an Alpha group early in 2020. You are cordially invited to find out more about Alpha at one of our advance gatherings. Join us on November 17th or 20th at 6 PM in Founders’ Hall. These are introduction sessions for anyone with questions or to see first-hand what Alpha will be like.
