Blessing of the Animals & Family Fun Pet Fair

Saturday, October 5, 12-3 PM

If it woofs, meows, tweets or brays, you just might find it at Ascension Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks Oct. 5. Our annual Blessing of the Animals outdoor event this year will be accompanied by a fair celebrating our beastie besties, and we’re inviting the community to join us! The fair will include:

• K-9 demonstrations by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department SAR K9 Team
• Pet adoptions
• A petting zoo
• Doggy agility demos
• Pet vendor booths
• Food trucks (for the humans)

“We know that God calls on us to take care of all of creation, including the animals,” notes Ascension Associate Pastor Steve Herder. “Each year in October we remember this as a traditional time to bless pets and other animals, creatures Francis of Assisi called his brothers and sisters. Our pets are very important parts of our families. This outdoor event gives thanks to God for our pets and asks God’s blessings on all of us, pets and people alike!”

Event chair Bonny Chick adds: “We want to create an opportunity for the entire community to come together and celebrate their pets on this special day. We also hope that the shelter/rescued pets will be blessed with new fur-ever homes.”

In addition to the Noon – 3 PM Blessings by our Pastors of each individual animal in attendance, there will also be accommodation for In-Car Drive Through Pet Blessings available from 3-3:30 PM. This will allow for sick, disabled and socially challenged pets to also receive their personal blessing!
