What We Believe
Our Purpose: Why We Exist
We believe that we are called to create opportunities for all people to become devoted followers of Christ.
Our Motto: Invite Grow Serve
Our Vision: Ascension is a cross-generational community of believers where all of God’s children, from birth to the end of life’s journey, are valued and called to be partners in ministry. Our vision compels us to be a place where children, youth, and adults, are equipped to do ministry and to be God’s caring presence, both here in this community, and in the world community of which we are a part. That vision is guiding us to develop a campus where all generations are present and interacting on our campus daily, in a way that allows faith in Christ to be passed on from generation to generation.
Core Beliefs
As members of Ascension Lutheran Church we believe we are a family of God’s chosen people, chosen by the grace and mercy of God through baptism and strengthened for our faith walk through His Word and Sacraments. We further believe that we have a mandate – set forth for us in the Great Commission to fully equip ourselves to be “A Caring People” and to proclaim God’s love, justice and forgiveness through effective witness and service. To accomplish these goals we strive to nurture and encourage one another through worship, study and prayer.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19
Our worship, ministries and programs at Ascension are rooted in our mission statement and the needs and concerns of the people in the Conejo Valley, but we are also committed to historic Christian orthodoxy as expressed in Scripture and the Apostles’ Creed, as well as in the traditions of the Lutheran Church. We belong to the Southwest California Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.
